Involvement with Dhrti Yoga

After my retirement from the post of Chief District Medical Officer Bargarh Orissa in Feb 2008, I joined Dhrti Yoga BTM 2nd stage, Bangalore on 28.07.2009 as a yoga practitioner, in the classes meant for elderly persons, conducted by Yoga instructor Vijaya. Initially I attended only two classes (1 hour each) in a week. From September 09, it became three classes and then from October 09, five days in a week right from Monday to Friday.
I was one of the participants to visit SVYASA University, Jigani campus, Bangalore on 30.08.2009 in a visitor’s trip arranged by Dhrti Yoga Studio for Detox program. Our yoga instructor, Vijaya, accompanied us in the trip. There were demonstrative lecture, practical demonstrations of yoga practices, visiting arogyadham & spiritual talks by students & faculty members of the institution for the visitors.
As an honorary physician, I participated in collecting and recording measurements of blood pressure & pulse rate of practitioners of different sessions, which is part of Dhrti’s health checkup program to understand how the practitioners are progressing.
On 10.01.2010, I as a diabetic and yoga practitioner of Dhrti yoga attended Mega Diabetic Awareness Camp at Jayanagar organized by SDM project undertaken by SVYASA. I have been registered in case study in the project “Stop Diabetes by Yoga”.
On 26.01.2010 at 10 A.M. a guest lecture was arranged by Satya, Director of Dhrti Yoga studio, delivered by Dr. Ramu on the subject “Astrology is Science”. I had the opportunity to felicitate the guest speaker on behalf of audience and Dhrti Yoga studio at the closing ceremony being called upon to stage by the Director, Satya.
By practice of yoga, my diabetic status is now under control and I have again become physically & mentally active in my post retirement life. During the last seven months since I resorted to yoga practices, yoga & spirituality have become the ways and means of my life.

  2. One of added advantage with Yoga in Diabetes and in Senior Citizens is that it exercises the muscles which have not been used since long.

      Satya madam (Mrs Satvinder Ramana) is the Director of Dhrti Yoga Studio BTM 2nd Stage Bangalore. Her qualification is M.Sc. (Yoga) from SVYASA (Swami Vivekananda Yoga Anusandhana Samsthana) Yoga University Bangalore. She has more than 12 years of rich experience in yoga as trainer and consultant, and known for her innovative entrepreneurial skills as Yoga Director.

      Vijaya madam (Mrs Vijaya Hariharan) was the Yoga Instructor for yoga classes of elderly persons in Dhrti Yoga Studio during the academic session 2009-2010. She is trained yoga instructor in YIC (Yoga Instructor Course) & trained yoga therapist from SVYASA Yoga University Bangalore.

      I had further interaction with SVYASA Yoga University Bangalore as a yoga practitioner of Dhrti Yoga described below:

      I was one of the participants in SDM (Stop Diabetes Movement through Yoga) Prasanti free camp for yoga practitioners having diabetes at SVYASA on April 6, 2010 representing Dhrti Yoga.To know details, you may refer my article Stop Diabetes through Yoga published in Yoga and Spirituality.

      I was also one of the twelve yoga practitioners in Shatkarma Trip to SVYASA on June 27, 2010 arranged by Dhrti Yoga.To know details, you may refer my article Six Shatkarmas in Yoga Practices published in Yoga and Spirituality.

      I am practicing Swadhyaya of Yoga at home since April 26, 2010 after attending regular yoga sessions for elderly persons in Dhrti Yoga Studio, BTM 2nd Stage Bangalore from July 28, 2009 to April 22, 2010 for about 9 months and attending yoga sessions at Dhrti Yoga Studio on special occasions.

I attended the one day course on Swara Yoga conducted by Sri Charanashritji of Satyam Yoga Centre; Organised by Director Dhrti Yoga at Dhrti Yoga studio BTM 2nd stage Bangalore held on April 24, 2011. I was one of the 25 participants who attended the course. I had the privilege to felicitate Sri Charanashritji on behalf of the participants and Dhrti Yoga in the closing ceremony being called upon to stage by Satya madam Director Dhrti Yoga to do the honour. The one day course covered theory and practice of Swara Yoga in Yoga Sadhana.

Being informed by Dhrti Yoga website, I was inspired to attend and have the privilege to listen the talk on ‘Yoga for the 21st Century’ by Swami Satyasangananda Saraswati; Organized by Atma Darshan Yogashram held from 6 P.M. to 7.30 P.M. on September 24, 2011 at Convention Centre of NIMHANS Bangalore.

    In addition to practicing the bahiranga (external) aspects of yoga namely asana and pranayama, by bridging the antaranga (internal) aspects of yoga with pratyahara; the yoga practitioner has to practice dharana and dhyana. This is the theme of ‘Yoga for the 21st Century’ to balance body-mind complex.

  6. I attended the Mantra Yoga Workshop conducted by Dr.Rishisagar, Distinguished Meditation Guru; Organised by Director Dhrti Yoga at Dhrti Yoga studio BTM 2nd stage Bangalore held from 9 A.M. to 1 P.M. on June 23, 2012. I was one of the 25 participants who attended the workshop.

    Mantras bring about a state of resonance between the individual and depths of his inner being. The sound patterns of the mantra stimulate the mental & psychic nature of the yoga practitioner of Mantra Yoga and the purpose & meaning of the mantra maintain spiritual health.

  8. I attended & participated in 3-days Divya Yoga Shivir held from February 2 to 4, 2013 organized by Atma Darshan Yogashram Bangalore at Dhrti Yoga Studio, BTM Layout, Bangalore. The Shivir was held as part of Golden Jubilee Celebration of Satyananda Yoga Ashram, Munger, Bihar India (popularly known as Bihar School of Yoga). Maha Mrituyanjaya Homa was held with chanting of 108 times Maha Mrituyanjaya Japa on February 2, 2013 Saturday Evening. On all 3-days in Morning, Afternoon & Evening Sessions ; Yoga Workshops, Discourses, Meditation and Kirtan-Satsangs were held led by the visiting swamijis, Dr. Swami Nirmalananda ji and Sanyasi Vamana Avataar ji. A total number of 65 yoga practitioners & spiritual seekers participated in the 3-days Yoga Shivir. It was a great uplifting experience for Yoga Sadhana as Science and Spirituality.

I have attended lectures, spiritual talks by faculty members, practical demonstrations of yoga practices by students and witnessed yoga therapy in arogyadham during visitors program conducted for the visitors at SVYASA (Swami Vivekananda Yoga Anusandhana Samsthana) Yoga University Bangalore as Yoga Practitioner, Dhrti Yoga Centre BTM 2nd Stage Bangalore during 2009-2010.I joined the classes of Yoga for Elderly persons in Dhrti Yoga Centre BTM 2nd Stage Bangalore on July 28, 2009.

  11. It has been 5 years as on today July 28, 2014 to be a Yoga Practitioner. I joined the yoga sessions for elderly persons at Dhrti Yoga Studio BTM 2nd Stage Bangalore on July 28, 2009 when I had completed 61 years of my age and was running 62 years. Never before I was exposed to yoga practices till then in my life. I had the problems of old age diabetes and osteoarthritis at that time. After attending yoga classes meant for elderly persons for about 9 months in Dhrti Yoga Studio BTM 2nd Stage Bangalore under Qualified Director & Trained Yoga Instructor and attending monthly visitors program conducted for the visiting yoga practitioners at SVYASA (Swami Vivekananda Yoga Anusandhana Samsthana) Yoga University Bangalore, since April 26, 2010 I have been practicing Concise Yoga Practice for Senior Citizens for more than 4 years as Swadhyaya of Yoga daily at home. By the long term practice of yoga, my diabetic status is under control and I have improved much in flexibility of movements of knee joints & able to walk up to 2 K.M., sit in Sukhasana cross legged for about half an hour at a stretch and do bending exercises of back which I was not able to do before starting yoga practices.

    It has been 5 years since the article Involvement with Dhrti Yoga authored by me got published on March 5, 2010 in website of Dhrti Yoga as my humble beginning as author in World Wide Web. After my 7 articles got published in website of Dhrti Yoga, Sai Shraddha & MedTitans during March & April 2010 as author, I created my own blog website Yoga and Spirituality on May 2, 2010 & on creation of my own blog I published the 7 articles first posted in other websites as my intellectual property in website of Yoga and Spirituality followed by new articles subsequently. I have so far published 141 articles in blog website of Yoga and Spirituality till date during these 5 years in Bangalore, India.
