Sai Baba`s Service to the Distressed in his life time and thereafter

As described in “Shri Sai Satcharita”, from the very early days in Shirdi, Sai Baba used to serve the distressed persons. In the beginning he used to go around Shirdi village and treat the sick persons by medicines. He did not charge any fees and brought health to the poor & helpless.
After some time, Sai Baba stopped giving medicines and started using the udi (holy ash from Dhuni) for curing diseases. Some times, Sai Baba used to cure his devotees` diseases by using superhuman power.
In the beginning, Sai Baba not only gave medicines to the sick persons but would himself serve them in case there was nobody else to do so .Later on, when he grew old and there were many devotees to assist him, he used to get this service done through them.
Annadan was one of the priorities in Sai Baba`s humanity. He told that “One should feed blind, deaf, dumb and distressed persons first and one`s own family members and relative afterwards”.
Following his foot steps, Sai Baba`s devotees are continuing annadan & providing health services to the distressed persons. The devotees either serve anna (food) prepared and brought by them or donate funds to the managing trustee for annadan. Sri Sadguru Sainath Seva Samithi (Regd.) managing Shri Shirdi Sai Baba Anand Ashram, BTM Lay out Bangalore is providing charitable health services to the poor and needy persons through “Sri Sai Free Medical Clinic” and “Sri Sai Free Dental Clinic” in the Ashram campus. An average of 75 to 100 patients is being treated everyday at both the Clinics. No consultation fees are charged and the patients are provided with medicines & services free of cost. The management cost is met out of funds donated by the devotees.

  7. I have the pleasure to inform the readers and viewers that the article captioned as ‘Sai Baba`s Service to the Distressed’ authored by me has been published in Shri Sai Sumiran Times New Delhi; internationally circulated printed monthly magazine both in Hindi and English medium on Shirdi Sai; in its Year No.7 Month No.1 October 2011 issue in English Section. 8. Tapas says:

“One should feed blind, deaf, dumb and distressed persons first and one`s own family members and relative afterwards”.But,now-a-days the term ‘lastly’ is being used instead of ‘first’ and so first priority to family members, relatives etc.

We need to learn from the findings from the Shri Sai Satcharita those are being kept in black and white. I think it is the best GITA for today’s generation, who don’t have time to get other holy books..;but on my part I could get hardly time to read it, I would suggest to the people like me that, the blog posts of Panda Sir are more pinpointed & crispier..easier than others…

I always read the blog even if I don’t have time to post a comment on it.

    OM SAI RAM

  15. Dr. Binod Bihari Naik says:

    Respected Sir,

At the very outset many thanks for your publication regarding day to day activities of the Shri Shirdi Sai Baba Ananda Ashram BTM Lay out Bangalore in your blog of Yoga and Spirituality. Really sir, it is your inspiration & awareness to develop enthusiasm among all devotees to carry out the same task. No doubt it is soul-stirring for a true devotee to remain engaged, but also simultaneously he can able to reap the benefit viz. Anand, Bliss; that`s the ultimate goal of one`s life.

Sai Baba`s incarnation was very amazing and debatable, still remains enigma and curiosity regarding His parents& birth place, because he never revealed this during his mortal coil. But his behaviour & activities were much similar rather more fit to Hindu & Muslim and at time transcended beyond both, even caste, creed, cult and religion; so he was accepted by all as Avatar and later on it was disclosed by the next incarnation Shri Satya Sai Baba that he was a boon by Shiva & Parvati to a Brahmin couple of a village Perthi near bank of river Godavari and was left wrapped under a banyan tree by the couple during their perplexed pilgrimage for Shiva & Shakti. But God`s creation never goes in vain or purposeless and he came under and grown up by a Muslim Fakir care taker and so on going till settled and acted as Avatar by miraculous vision at Shirdi village. Hence genetically he is a Hindu and culturally a Muslim; and yet no-body denies as both were magnetized with his divine fervour and even every one beyond religion. So one who takes retreat to Shirdi Baba must feel life achieving the way to salvation and progresses in spiritual sphere and spends time spiritually.

Therefore if all devotees like you follow the path of Sai Baba to render service to human society and help to distressed, then definitely Golden age of truth will descend with no time. It is God`s work and on-going process, so in spite of hindrance by so called modern technocrats it follows like an incessant river and flies like a fearless balloon, as seen waves of devotion by many people around the world to Sai Mission make it successful. So the Atmosphere becomes Atma-sphere.

    Your Divine Brother
