Motivation for Meditation

Most persons start practising meditation because of personal problems. Doctors advise patients to meditate to overcome physical sicknesses and psychosomatic diseases. Some persons resort to meditation because of psychological or emotional problems. Some want to meditate because their religion recommends it. Some want to achieve psychic powers. Some want to know about themselves. A few meditate to realize supreme consciousness. Whatever the motivation for meditation, what so ever the reason; it is definitely beneficial.

The important aspect is the practice of meditation. If you know how to practise, you can use it as and when you need it. If you don`t have problems, you can still meditate to grow and nurture spirituality of eternal joy and bliss.

Thanks for quite a thought provoking post,Sir.

Ironically, we tend to associate happiness or sorrow to objects and people outside of us. It does not require great intelligence but a mere self-reflection to realize that real happiness is within us. As you rightly mentioned, often, even meditation is used as a means to such goals. Any meditation is good and it takes one to the cherished goal. But sooner or later one would realize that what we truly seek is elsewhere and eventually would turn inwards to seek happiness within.

    Meditation is a personal thing.
It’s an experience rather than a technique or a practice…and with experiments, one finds technique which he/she feels can stick to several months.

    There are types of meditations:
Chakra meditation , Trataka – Gazing , Moving meditation, Mantra meditation , Themed meditation.

Meditation helps us to connect with the world – continue interacting in an open minded and loving way.

  3. Meditation is a relaxation and intellectually enhancing technique.

It is universally useful. The reasons for doing it vary according to persons’ psyche and needs. If done properly, it is definitely beneficial.

One should learn it as early and teach it to youngsters too.

    Well touched topic.

  7. Let’s discuss only “Motivation”.
Showing someone to walk on a good/bad way is called Motivation. In the other hand Motivation can be described as Attraction towards a Path. Like Panda Sir, always motivate us to comment on his articles and here we can say that his word coordination with meaningful knowledge,is the reason that we all are motivated towards his article, i.e. we all are attracted towards his article.

In the context “Motivation for Meditation”; I can say here, anything good for health or society should be adopted at our level through own motivation system.

Meditation = SHANTI (Peace), so please forget all war and go for all peace.

  8. Tapas says:

    Dear Panda Sir,
Nice article on need-based practicing of meditation.

Not only in the field of meditation but also, we have been following most of the things what others say /do. I remember when I had passed the 10th Exam; I had got no idea which course should I seek. I had got my admission into Commerce as my father told me to do so; I am also thankful to him as it was a job oriented course and any one can get entry level Accounts job with lesser effort. But right now I have switched to development sector & my core job responsibility is MIS & M&E and no accounting knowledge is required there to; apparently MSW & / or MPH is very much required with basic SPSS / IT knowledge.Whereas in the US & other developed countries there is a system of counselling. The implementation starts from the age ‘0’ in the Baby Care, later in the play school and career counseling to health & so on.

My appeal to everyone that, we must have a counselling system in every field. So that every one will be motivated towards achieving their dreams.

    Om Sri Sai Nathaya Namah.

Your article on motivation for meditation is a teaching lesson to humanity.

You have pointed out in your article that most people start meditation at the time of problem and physician`s advise to go for meditation to overcome the psychological or emotional problems. In fact as birth is to death so also to live in the mortal world means to confront with a number of problems; may it be social, economical, psychological, emotional and so on.The happiness or melancholy in the worldly life is ultimately the outcome of the karma of previous birth and according to the direction of the Almighty. So men may adopt or follow the different types of meditation, but if the body & mind is not completely surrendered before the director of the wheel(Chakradhari); then we may not achieve the goal of manaba-janma.

    Yours Sincerely

  12. Sir,

Viewed the topic ‘Motivation for Meditation’ which covered all groups of human beings to learn, adopt, practise & enjoy the benefit of meditation; then once it opens to be self-motivated; it is so easy that no guide or mentor is essential. How one will proceed with meditation is very simple that makes the body still, mend the mind one pointed to pierce own soul to be beckoned with light which the soul imbibes from Supreme Soul. Meditator then becomes a world mentor to unite in diversity.

    Thanking you,
    Yours Sincerely

What you have mentioned in this article is a bitter fact. Everyone knows the beneficial aspect of yoga and meditation, but may be because of stringent life schedule or lack of proper motivation do not practise this. Therefore it’s really good that whatever may be the cause, everyone should motivate themself and start doing meditation to have a sound health and intellect.

This article may provide a source of motivation to all the readers those who are lacking that motivation.
