Manifestation of Divinity in Spirituality

Spirituality or adhyatmikata means that which deals with ‘what is within man’ i.e. spirit or self or atman which is divine. Spirituality thus is the process of manifestation of divinity in man. A man with spiritual orientation reflects divinity in his thoughts and expressions.

Spirituality is the method through which one learns, and succeeds, in overcoming his lower nature which is manifested in form of egoism, jealousy, lust, greed and so on. His mind is transformed by spiritual practices such as prayer and worship, yoga and meditation, reading scriptures, reciting mantra, repeating japa, selfless action and service & the like. Thus a spiritual aspirant succeeds in attenuating his lower nature by the above methods or practices. When one`s lower nature is subdued, one`s higher nature starts manifesting divinity. This manifestation of divinity in man is the essence of spirituality.

I agree with you, Doctor. I believe it is pursuit of spirituality that makes man rise above other animals, and makes him worthy of being called human. Both spirituality and lower nature seems to be unique only to man, as compared to other animals. When his indulgence in lower nature, he does things which even animal will not do. That makes him worse than a beast.Spiritual pursuit too makes him do things which animal cannot do. He does things which are in interest of everyone else, as he sees divinity in himself, every one else, everything around, and every happening.

  2. Dear Sir,you have rightly mentinoed about spirituality.True sense of spirituality is to purify inner basic instincts,to search inner god within our hearts, act in according to conscience…and not only to go temple and worship.

    Dear Sir,
Very Nicely elaborated Article on Spirituality.

I came to know from this article, the real spiritual person is always clean-hearted and peaceful in nature, that is what the regular and continuous practice of sprituality (through any means-Yoga,Japa,Dhyana,Tapa etc.) make him/her to lead a normal, peaceful and healthy life.

    Thanking You,

  4. Our brain is continously in process of learning and doing. All forms of processes are tried by our brain, wrong as well as right. If right acts are done for longer time then we become relatively right person and vice versa.Good acts in general are good for society and hence generate peace and love.

Processes mentioned above are meant to continously keep the person on right track.Life can have both -peace and violence.Peace should prevail over violence.

    Om Sri Sainathaya Namah

Sir, your article on ‘Manifestation of Divinity in Spirituality’ is a marvelous edition which implies about manifestation of divinity in spirituality. It touches the apex when the lower nature is subdued.

I think and it is said that 33 crores (Tetish Koti Jeeba)of living beings/creatures are the creation of that supreme power among whom the man or human being is the entity to realise and practice the tracks of spirituality through any means i.e.Yoga,Japa,Dhyana,Tapa etc. and create path for spiritual attainment. But is there any such instinct among the animal who also some time follows such practice; for example while in Kakad Arati time all the dogs sleeping in Sai Temple bark at a single tone when the Arati end tone begins. Do they really know something about the spirituality or simple they bark?

    Yours Sincerely
    Chandra Kumar Panda

    • Om Sai Ram

While having faith in Sai Spirituality, we should also always remember Mrs.Tarkhad’s story given in Chapter IX of Shri Sai Satcharita which tells how Sai manifests in all the creatures.

  6. Dr.Binod Bihari Naik says:

    Respected Sir,
The topic ‘Manifestation of Divinity in Spirituality’ teaches those who are acquainted in your publication of yoga & spirituality, the process of how to curtail the lower nature and transgress the higher nature and suffuse with higher qualities to be manifested as divine.

According to me instantly a man becomes divine when he becomes free from danger, difficulties, and near to death condition by the help of invisible hands; and then as per suitability in adaptability in nature he enters into path of karma yoga, bhakti yoga, jnana yoga and raja yoga. Out of all, Patanjali has given more emphasis on the last one because it deals with nature with bodies, body with mind and last but not the least mind with intellect which gives the final path of atma for paramatma that is called Mahasamadhi.

    With regards,
    Yours sincerely

    Dear Sai Brother,
I really wanted to practice yoga for quite so long. But, I have few doubts.I want to learn using online yoga videos. Is it OK? I have heard people saying thay v must learn only from yoga instructors etc. And if v learn by ourself, then if v make any mistakes in life then it might lead to serious health hazards. Is it true? Kindly clear my doubts pls.

    Thank u

    • The subject need to be first learnt from teachers and books. This phase eradicates the practicing errors, which is a very important precaution especially for beginners to avoid any possible health hazards of incorrect practices. One can develop enthusiasm for well-coordinated yoga exercises in attending group sessions conducted at yoga centre. One can rectify incorrect posture, practices and learn new techniques of yoga practices. You may read the book ‘Light on Yoga’ authored by B K S Iyengar and join a recognised Yoga centre for initial learning of yoga practices for at least six months and then Swadhyaya of Yoga can be taken up.

You can read my article ‘Swadhyaya of Yoga’ published in Yoga and Spirituality to know details.

  8. Santhosh says:

Even the Matha Ranis Parvathi, Lakshmi and Saraswathi were once filled with Jealous feeling that Anasuya mother was the greatest Pathivratha in the universe and sent their husbands i.e. trinities to test mother Anasuya, but that happened for a good reason and Lord Dattha’s birth took place. But just imagine when the jealousy feeling was there even in the Mathas, we humans are no exception for it, it is of no use for us, please help us to get rid of it Sai. Jealousy feeling always results in the destruction in humans.Hey Baba, we surrender to you all our senses, please help us to utilize them properly.

  9. I like your thoughts on spirituality. It deserves respect. Explanation on Patanjali is excellent! Surprising to note that most people having faith on Hinduism is far from it. The Indian philosophy is not followed by them in true sense. Your works can really come to the benefit of people loving divinity and peace.

  10. The Hindu concept of Origin of our universe is that God remains in an un-manifest, unitary subtle state for aeons and then He creates a desire within Himself to manifest in grosser forms with the sole intention to EXPERIENCE Himself. Then He brings out of Himself trillions upon trillions of different forms, every one unique in itself. Through these uncountable forms He EXPERIENCES Himself only. Now, can we work on this typically Hindu thesis of creation and apply it to our day-to-day experiencing of different situations, people, events, our own different states of mind? Can we connect this to the stream of consciousness in a flux flowing through us and conceive that God, not I, is experiencing all these? Can we establish it as a fact that God is doing thus because He is determined to do so, it being the PRIME PURPOSE of His Creation? Can this be a way to replace ‘I’ with ‘God’ as the real experiencer of every thought, feeling within us? Can we remove the nagging presence of narrow ‘I’ through the practical application of this thesis? 🙂 🙂 🙂

    • Let us suppose we construe every thought as a mirror upon which Awareness falls. If the surface of the mirror is soiled and dirty, the reflected image appears blurred and deformed. The cleaner the surface, the clearer the image. Now, it’s true that no thought is clean enough to produce an exact and absolute replica of Awareness. But some thoughts exhibit relatively cleaner surface than the other ones. Which are those thoughts? We have to find out for ourselves and let our innate Awareness fall upon them. I, for one, prefer thinking on different aspects of Nature -the ocean, the sky, the hills, the clouds, the grooves, the rose, etc. The ‘sat’, the ‘chit’ and the ‘ananda’ aspects of Awareness find quite a good reflection in these Nature-related thoughts. 🙂

      • Often we have to adopt certain subtle strategies to deal with the highly complex mind web. We have to approach a mind-boggling issue with cool cleverness. It is one such strategy only. Let me make clear how it works.

Suppose I want to see an exact replica of my face through the reflected image in a mirror. I am not sure if the mirror I am making use of is the one that produces exact replica. As an initial test I hold an object in front of the mirror and compare both the real object and its reflected image. If I find the correct resemblance between the two I pass the mirror as the right one.

Now, coming to our point, let us suppose that every thought crossing the mind zone is a mirror.(This is only for convenience of practice, although it’s not true) Let us then suppose that this thought-mirror is reflecting me(Awareness). Every thought, as we know, contains ego. Let us fix that ego to be the image of Awareness. If the thought is anger-related or lust-related or fear-related, tension would be clearly felt. We can reject that thought as an imperfect mirror. If the thought is Nature-related, humanity-related , faith and trust related, joy and peace related, relaxation would be clearly felt. We can accept these thoughts as the right kinds of mirrors, because Awareness is Truth -Consciousness -Beauty.

This strategy truly works wonders. It replaces a negative mind frame with a vibrantly positive one.

    Dear Dr.Panda,

Your article on Manifestation of Divinity in Spirituality is very thought-provoking. As for me, I am trying my best to look into my inner-self & trying to weed out unwanted thoughts & deeds, but have realised that it is easier said than done. However, I am confident that I would be able to establish a rapport with my inner-self before long.
