Progressive Level of Devotion

In the primary level of devotion we think that the earth exists only for human beings.

The second level of devotion reveals that the earth exists not only to cater to our own welfare, but also to promote the wellbeing of all organisms that coexists with us. When we reach this level, our patience and tolerance increase and grow. We also begin to understand that every single thing we do has a direct or indirect impact on other beings.

At the third level of devotion we become aware of our contribution to this world through our thoughts, words and deeds. A new awareness makes us recognise that although contributing socially to the world is good, we must also contribute a spiritual legacy for the future.

Next in the progressive level of devotion we realise that a clean and pure mind is as important as a pollution free environment and at this stage our devotion removes negative thoughts from the mind and keeps it pure.

Last but not the least when the mind is purified, our devotion guides us to think of how much we are working for the welfare of others and how useful we are to them.

  1. Sage Narada narrates progressive level of devotion in spirituality as follows:

When unselfish love springs within and makes us experience the presence of God or Paramatma, we are able to see and feel the luminescence of our soul or Atma; where a constant feeling vibrates in us that “There is nothing within me except bliss, everything is Supreme Light or Jyothi. I am Sat-Chit-Ananda or pure knowledge”.

  2. Basically thought process, nature, compulsions of life make us what we are. Selflessness is a great idea but world in which we live is not absolutely fair. Everybody is born with particular set of genes; some have the capacity to uphold truth, while majority have not. Hence everybody has to be selfish to some extent, gradation varies. Devotion provides us peace when we permit our selves to justify that we are above self.

  3. Vinod Varma says:

In highest state of devotion, one is in unison with the ultimate and compassionate to every being.

    Dear Sir,
    Namaskar.
    Good Article,’Progressive Level of Devotion’.

It’s true that every one should do something for others-other than self.It completely depends on the individuals, their thinking and acting procedures. Though it’s not possible for any one to become selfless but above self they can do something for others, where they can got some kind of self-satisfaction.

Rightly mentioned in your article that, we are all not just to live ourself, definitely do something other than self. That’s what the life, from where the people can remember the goodness of the particular individual, the most and best examples are Mahatma Gandhi and Mother Teresa. We may not be that much of selfless, but we can be based on the way we lead our life for others.

  5. Upanishad says-Paropakara swargaya….In odia bhagabata-Je rahe para upakare,ta janma dhanya e sansare. In GITA lord krishna says-“I am in everybody..”All these shows-service to mankind is service to GOD.Our life is a golden opportunity to serve others. Charity begins in family. We should give love, care & service to our family first. I think this is the actual devotion. About spiritual devotion swami vivekanand says-“If we can’t feed roti to a man, then disseminating spiritual message has no meaning”. So social devotion is much much essential.

  6. Dr.Binod Bihari Naik says:

    Sir,

When I make sense your script ‘Progressive Level of Devotion’ with in no time, a picture of pyramid screened in my mind and remained imprint, I became puzzled, took a short pause and instantly picked up a conclusive answer that pyramid has been predicting the pillar of success of human value since time unmemorable. Days were gone when Greece opened the divine eyes each in milieu of world. Still pyramid stands still as dumb monument and reflects its strength and longevity in spite of turmoil of natural calamity. Being so designed by the then an astute architect; it is imparting knowledge of Science & Spirituality. Its wide base on earth is compared to widen heart and that of an iota of summit point to that of soul summit in life.

But to fly on the soul sky one has to immunize and tune the body & mind as two wings of a bird by penance, patience, perseverance and universal prayer. Further he becomes closed devotee to GOD when adhered to discipline, dedication, detachment, discrimination and determination. This stage is called full devotion to divine and endows with noble qualities like love, compassion, righteousness, sacrifice and truth. Divine eyes fall on him to accomplish His tasks till his mortal coil. It is a learning curve to know and progress that man with devotion is divine and devoid of it is demon. Divine man opens era of aura and sub charge the subordinates but demon indulges with illusion & ends with devastation.

Hence everybody is requested to follow the earful & colourful dictum below for peace & prosperity of life:
    Fight to end (Devil)
    Finish the game (Evil)
    Make seat on blossom lotus
    Enjoy the divine flavour.

    Thanking You,
    Your Divine Brother

The article on ‘Progressive Level of Devotion’ implies the different phases of Devotion to be observed by the the human race for his benefit and for the benefit in and around us. The Universe is the creation of the Creator in which millions of living creatures are found to be alive. So far our knowledge is concerned we are knowing a little regarding the earth where the human being along with other creatures go on living. But we still are not aware of the thousands of planets where what exists ? The matter devotion should be at first to the creator of us and then to other superiors. No doubt every step of devotion be it to the Almighty or other superiors leads to peace and mental tranquility. Here it is to be mentioned here that if I will refer to one of your earlier article, then this devotion chapter is also learned through our ancestors stored in typical way in ‘Shastras and Smritis’.

    Yours Sincerely,
    Chandra Kumar Panda

  11. Sri Ramakrishna was asked if a man can at all be free from ‘I’. His answer was,”No”. He was then asked what could be done about ‘I’, the root of all maya. He said,”Turn it into a golden sword through devotion to the Lord. It can then no longer hurt anyone, rather shall be an ornament.”

Ramana Maharshi , replying to a similar query, had said,” Use ‘I’ as a means of inner quest. Ask the question ‘who am I?’, whenever you feel the impact of ego within. Use it as a mantra. Dig deeper grounds through this. You will soon enter into a state of vacuum. You will know then that ‘I’ has no existence.”
