Darshan of Sai as Ram

Sai Ram

In the Arati to Shirdi Sai Baba, the devotees pray:
Arati Saibaba, Jaya manee jaisa bhav, Taya taisa anubhav.
Dawisee dayaghana, Aise tujhee hee maav, tujhee hee maav. Arati Saibaba.
Oh Saibaba, as one feels intently for you, you give him experiences or realizations accordingly. Oh Kind-hearted, Your power is such! Oh Saibaba.

As described in Chapter XII of Shri Sai Satcharita, “Once a Mamlatdar came to Shirdi, with a doctor friend of his. The doctor said that his Deity was Ram and that, he would not bow before a Mohammeden and so, he was unwilling to go to Shirdi. The Mamlatdar replied, that nobody would press him to bow down. So, he should come and give the pleasure of his company. Accordingly, they reached Shirdi and went to the Masjid for Baba`s darshan. All were wonder-struck to see, the doctor going ahead and saluting Baba. They asked him, how he forgot his resolve and bowed down to a Mussalman. Then, the doctor replied that, he saw his beloved Deity, Ram, on the seat and he therefore, prostrated himself before Him. Then, as he was saying this, he again saw, Sai Baba there. Being dismayed, he again said, “Is this a dream? How could He be a Mohammeden? He is a great Yogasampanna (full of Yoga) Avatar.”

  1. Ram Navami is being celebrated in Shirdi for more than 100 years continuing since the life time of Sai Baba. The readers may read the article Ram Navami celebration in Sai Spirituality published in Yoga and Spirituality to know in detail the history of celebration of Ram Navami in Shirdi.

    Om Sai Ram

  2. Santhosh says:

    Dear Uncle,
    Om Sai Ram.

Sai is a very compassionate and a great Sadhguru, he just wants his kids to be happy. He wants us to understand the reality of the universe, and discharge the prescribed duties accordingly. If anyone has/had doubt about Sai, Baba himself would give them the answer and let us understand the fact. Sai also gave darshan as Sri Ram to another lady devotee (I don’t remember the name unfortunately , they were attending bhajan mela from Chennai mentioned in Sri Sai Satcharita). Sai also used to sing the song : “Ramathe Ram, Ramathe Ram, aaoji aaoji, udiyan ka goniyan laaoji laaoji” – Oh playful Ram, please come and get us some sacks of Udi :). As per SriPadha Vallabha Charithra, it is mentioned – Sai is none other than Sri Hanuman. The description is as follows :

“Lord Sripadha Sri Vallabha’s words to Hanumaan : “Eventhough you were born out of the divine origin of Shiva, you became devotee of Sri Ram. In Arabic language, Aal means Shakthi, Aaha means Shaktha i.e. one who holds Shakthi. Therefore, Allah means the combined form of Shiva and Shakthi. All along the time you worshiped me in form of Janaki Vallabha.Henceforth you adore Me as ShivaShakthi by uttering the name of Allah, My dear Hanumaan, you are very intelligent. May the strength and supremacy of mine flourish in you also. I will remain incognito in the body of Narasimha Saraswathi in the Kadali Vana for 300 years in Yoga Samadhi. Then I will become famous as Sri Swamy Samardha in Pragnapura, when the time comes for leaving my mortal body,I will incarnate into you who are in the form of Sai. I will announce unequivocally that my incarnation is within you. You will become famous as My Sarva Samardha Sadhguru incarnation”. Thus the incarnation of Sai was indicated 1000’s of years ago by the First Datta incarnation Sripadha Sri Vallabha”.

    Kind Regards,
    Santhosh KV.

  3. When we go for worship, we are supposed to worship and not question. What matters is worship and not the “God / Worshiped Picture/ Form/ material etc.” The benefits of worship will be available according to the degree of faith of worshiper and thoughts of person in his mind before / during / after worship. Process of worship is in the brain and benefits flow to the body containing that brain and also the persons related to that body. Hence true worship is always rewarded by not the demands made but according to the faith and truth in worship, coincidences and our actions.

    Dear Sir,

I read your article published on 1st April 2013 on ‘Darshan of Sai as Ram’.

This article teaches us “God for Bhakta (Devotee) or Bhakta (Devotee) for God”.
In Odia proverb it may be implied as:
    “Ja Mana Jepari Ta Pain Separi Phala Thoi Thae Biswa;
Uchhamana Ucha Amruta Lavayee Nichhamana Lave Bisa.”
The true Devotee will see his Almighty in his own feelings, own idea or own perception. Your devotion towards Sai Baba goes deeper and deeper day by day. It is a good sign and symbol of your future spiritual life.

    Thanking You

  5. Dr.Binod Bihari Naik says:

    Respected Sir,

Sai Baba appeared as Ram to devotees of Ram is nothing new. It is the divine doctrine to develop divine aura in the heart of a true devotee, because a true devotee is a representative of an Avatar and the Avatar is the same of the Almighty; the unseen cosmic force. Then question arises how to develop faith on divinity. Answer is simple, be like a doctor devotee even with confusion mind to Sai as he could able to see Almighty Ram by the grace of Sai Baba and bowed down to Baba. It was only possible because of staunch devotion. This miraculous event was only to develop closeness to true devotee and widened his vision in order to curtail ego. So one can imagine and reveal that Avatar comes and goes, but Supreme God is eternal; descends with all qualities for correction of human society.

Hence your publication shows a nice example to become true devotee being averted from pride, ego, enviousness, jealousness and infatuation etc. and develop equal vision to all for self-divinity.

    Thanking You

  6. Prakash Padhan says:

Sai Baba is above any religion, caste & creed. Santh Kabir also says-“Jaat na puchho sadhu ki…”. They spread only manaba dharma, they are so broad. I have seen in Shirdi that both Hindu as well as Muslim people bow before Baba. It’s true, “as one feels intently for you, you give him experiences or realizations accordingly”. Goswami Tulsi Das also says-“Jaki bhabana jaisi…”.

  7. Vinod Varma says:

Just as Lord Siva asked Sankaracharya ‘kim gangambuni bimbitembaramanau chandalavatipayah pure chandaramasti kanchanaghati mrthkumbhayorvambare’ roughly translating to mean ‘is there difference in jewel of sky reflected in waters of ganga or in a ditch in slum… if there difference in space in golden pot or mud pot’…All petty squabbles and differences are only for mortals like us, divinity is beyond all these differences and my salute to the Guru who is beyond all these differences…

  8. V Nageswara Rao says:

    Dear Sir,

Very Nice and Learningful article on “Darshan of Sai as Ram” to know more about Shirdi Sai Baba.I have seen in Hindi/ Telugu Films/TV Serials of Shirdi Sai Baba and also came to know from the book “Sai Satchairtha” that, Sai baba is the only ‘God’ who is prayed by people across the world from different religions without any difference in caste, creed and religion. It was also known from Films and Books that any individual/ Bhakta who wants to see Sai Baba in whatever form of God, the individual can be able to see Sai Baba as and in that particular form of God, if praying Baba wholeheartedly with Bhakti.

  9. Sir,
Wish You Happy Hindu New Year.

Sir, it is a nice article regarding the description of ‘Om Sai Ram’. The line in your article i.e.”He is a great Yogasampanna (full of Yoga) Avatar” clearly mentions about the Almighty which is the ultimate truth of the Universe. A brilliant research on Bhakti yoga.

  10. Umesh says:

    Respected Brother,

As Sai Baba was in the form of Yogic Avatar, all the happenings around him were known to him suddenly. Always one wants to see his deity in the same form as he worships. Hanumanji while seeing lord SriKrishna was not fully satisfied & wanted to see his beloved pravu SriRam. When he saw his pravu SriRam he was satisfied & knew Ram & Krishna are not separate but only one in different forms. So also in the part of doctor while seeing his deity Ram instead of Baba he bowed down & saluted him. Later he knew Baba as a great Yogasampanna Purus & the caste, religion feelings was no more in his mind.

    Yours sincerely,

  11. Rajesh Kumar Panda says:

    Respected Dear Kaka,
Pranam, I agree with the comments of Umesh Kaka.
    I remain.
    Yours affectionately,

  12. Purnima Panda says:

    Pranam kaka,

A nice article with deepest devotional feeling. This article teaches us whether we are in front of Sadguru or our beloved deity, all are above caste and religion. The Almighty is always one and all are their different forms that we are worshiping. So when one goes to worship the only thing in his mind should be bhakti bhava and complete surrender with pure heart and mind. As Tulsi Das says “Jaki Rahi bhavana jaisi pravu murat tihin dekhaen taisi”.

  13. I have the pleasure to inform the readers and viewers that the article captioned as ‘Darshan of Sai as Ram’ authored by me has been published in Shri Sai Sumiran Times New Delhi; internationally circulated printed monthly magazine both in Hindi and English medium on Shirdi Sai; in its Year No.8 Month No.8 May 2013 issue in English Section.

  14. Dr. Krishna Ch Sith says:

“Sri Saibaba” a superman with super natural power has become a household word in India & abroad now-a-days who manifested upon the Earth for the benefit of whole living World irrespective of genera, species , castes, creeds & religions but needed no wider platform no life style other than a modest India Village Fakir. He has millions of devotees drawn from all races, castes & religions but never interfered with their religion instead insisted to follow their own religious teachers and religious practices while worshiping their own God & Goddess. He always advocated the unity of all religions. He could read the innermost thought of every body, relieved their wants and carried comfort to all. He appeared to assume in many forms of Gods & Goddesses as deemed proper either to satisfy his devotees who ardently desired to behold their material eyes to prove that he was the same in no way different from God.

Your topic ‘Darshan of Sai as Ram’ is befitting example of Sai`s transformation as Lord Ram for the benefit of skeptical Hindu Brahmin Doctor who was a staunch devotee of Ram. There are so many cases of this nature narrated in ‘Sai Satcharita’ where Sai Baba has been transformed into Shiva, Vishnu, Krishna, Vithal, Pandurang, Ram Chandra, Goddess, Guru Dattatreya, Swamy Akhalkot, Golap Swami, Payagmber, Zarthostra & Prophet Ali to satisfy the loving heart of his devotees & fulfilling the compact ” The Oneness of God” among his followers.
