Human Mind is Infinite Library of Universe

In Karma-Yoga Chapter I of the book ‘The Complete Works of Swami Vivekananda’ (Vol.I), in which Swami Vivekananda`s lectures and writings have been incorporated, Swami Vivekananda has said, “All knowledge that the world has ever received comes from the mind; the infinite library of the universe is in your mind. The external world is simply the suggestion, the occasion, which sets you to study your own mind, but the object of your study is always your own mind. The falling of an apple gave the suggestion to Newton, and he studied his own mind. He rearranged all the previous links of thought in his mind and discovered a new link among them, which we call the law of gravitation. It was not in the apple nor in anything in the centre of the earth.

All knowledge, therefore, secular or spiritual, is in the human mind. In many cases it is not discovered, but remains covered, and when the covering is being slowly taken off, we say, “We are learning,” and the advance of knowledge is made by the advance of this process of uncovering. The man from whom this veil is being lifted is the more knowing man, the man upon whom it lies thick is ignorant, and the man from whom it has entirely gone is all-knowing, omniscient”.

    Respected Sir,

Mind is the root cause of every knowledge so far known to human civilization which is bestowed to human being by Almighty, where human being has showed his independence to study & explore the magic of universe and to implement and to contribute the same to others for further exploration during his stipulated existence in the universe as body-mind complex, but known to many, that is an unending procedure to grasp the miracle of Almighty. So one`s mind is subdued at last & becomes submissive to God. Here I like to quote: Exploration means Science and Submission means Spirituality. Still human mind is designated as infinite library of universe till other creation will empower and supersede the mind. Hence at present mind of one has universal potentiality to collect information from universe and stores in his own hard-ware (brain). So at times improper processing may invite own disaster and becomes damaged and loses its identity in own space. See, control of mind means control of everything of own within universe. This trick is a pleasurable drama of mind with body in spirit at his grace period of one`s life. It is not possible by scientific study (External study), but a way to enter by Spiritualism (Internal study), which you have given emphasis by citing the message of great soul Swami Vivekananda and experimental observation of great scientist Newton to discriminate and en-root spirituality to the mind of readers.

    Many Thanks,
    Your Divine Brother

Very enlightening post, I have been thinking deeply into this subject lately. I recently realized how easy it is to realize that the knowledge of the universe is within each one of us. It is quite simple. If each one of us is made in the image of God, and each one of our souls is a reflection of this cosmic intelligence, then it stands to reason that our minds are naturally all knowing. We have forgotten to access this library because of our own limitations and attachment to this sensory pleasures.

Veil of ignorance cast by the great illusion (maya) hides human mind from getting to see the true knowledge within, and veil is removed only through the benevolence guru.

  4. Madan Goyal says:

It is really great to compare mind and library. Mind is a complex machine carrying neurological functions while library is store of books carrying explored, written, clarified and explained information. Mind is just like basic elements from which many things can be made, but that requires process of making. Thoughts come to mind but every thought has certain stimulus in present or past. While library is store of thoughts of innumerable persons, brain has limitation of previous conditioning by one person. An illiterate person can’t read or write but can be trained to do so. It is encouraging to think it this way that we have all knowledge in our brain but unfolding it requires lot of effort, training or research.

  5. Sir,

It is really a scientific article regarding the matter you have discussed. Sir, Library is also created by human being. The super power of human being reflected through their writing comes from the super power of the God only for which human being is the medium to enlighten others. You make us aware about life process which you have experienced in past which is reflected in your blog. Sir, it is true that as a representative of God you have done your work in this life time. Swami Vivekananda is really one of the men of super power, we may say him as Angel of God. His writing is highly accepted all world till date. Why ? It is only by his meditation as well as yoga practice in his childhood to the end of his life; Lastly let us remember his word-“UTHISTHATA…JAGRATAH..”

    Dear Sir,

I read your article ‘Human Mind is Infinite Library of Universe’ posted on June 1, 2013. Human mind is always restless and obstinate. The person who can control the mind through Abhyasa Yoga and Bairagya Yoga, he can do all work better (performance) in the world. The person who does not control the mind in such a way, definitely he will pull down day by day. Mind is the supreme part and also power of the human body. Certainly your article will teach the society for better achievements in all respects of life.

  9. Prakash Padhan says:

Good to know quote of Swami Vivekananda about Human mind. Evolution of mind and evaluation of external world leads to be more spiritual. Like Newton saw falling of apple and studied mind, Gautama Buddha analysed his mind after watching dead body, patient, old man and saint. We everybody have experience of seeing like Newton & Buddha, But they have explored their library(mind).

  10. Santhosh says:

The mind is nothing but a ocean of thoughts. If mind is hurt, we may suffer for a while, but if heart is hurt, it remains for long time. So it’s good to thrash out the thoughts before it reaches the heart and make its house!!

The mind should always be pure as its thoughts should not hurt the heart, so the methods of Praying should be practised, so that the good thoughts sprout up, and in the course of time, the mind becomes pure and enjoy the Happiness always even in the toughest situations.

    Om Sai Ram 🙂

    Respected Dear Kaka,
The eternal aspect of the mind of human body exampled by you is note worthy.

    Respected Brother,

Nothing in the world is superior to mind as in Bhagbat Gita:”Lord Krishna while giving Brahma-gyan to Arjuna has told that He is the supreme mind”. As mind fluctuates each and every time it should be controlled by Abhyas by enchanting the sacred Prabhunam. Then only the pure human mind will be the infinite library of Universe and others will collect knowledge from it.

The article ‘Human mind is Infinite Library of Universe’ is excellent. All things that are happening in our surroundings whether it is valuable or worthless, needs analysis and thinking. We are using a few percentage capacity of our brain. Many of us don’t think the solution of a problem is in our mind and the only thing to do is to analyze each and every aspect and deep examination.
