Inculcating Human Values among Students should be Prime Purpose of Education

The value system, the ability to distinguish between right and wrong, good and bad is embedded in education. The educated person with his general knowledge and power of reasoning is expected to make logical judgments. He is ought to be able to understand what is good for him, so also for the society and nation. Helping individuals to be developed as good citizens should be the prime purpose of education. It is difficult to be a good citizen without being a good human being. It is needed to focus education on inculcating good human values among the students while preparing them for jobs.

The neglect or reduction in the importance given to humanities and social sciences under the influence of the argument that more and more students prefer the so called ‘professional courses’ is also a big concern. Guiding and encouraging students to become good human beings and effective citizens are needed at all levels of education.

  1. Thanks for share. What is good human value and differentiating right from wrong is extremely difficult. Lord Krishna and all wise persons have narrated volumes on this subject. Making children self sufficient is first target of education. Human values should be taught at home and in school both.

Now-a-days we forget phrases like “Education is the manifestation of perfection”,’vidya dadati vinayam’,’sa vidya ja vimuktaye’.You have expressed concern on professional courses, which have become commercial courses now. Students have attitude of ‘Earning’ instead of ‘Learning’. Moral education is badly necessary. One can start rendering it in home first.

  3. Dr.Binod Bihari Naik says:

    Respected Sir,

Your message,” Human value based education” to students of any nation is highly essential for present scenario of every society irrespective of caste, creed and religion. Without due importance to it the nature will become doom and mother earth is definitely going to be graveyard. But it is a burning question that how and who will initiate the task. Answer is very simple that when the guardians or all custodians will develop sense of human values viz truth, righteousness, peace, love and nonviolence then present for future citizens that is meant to be student mass will be properly nurtured and blossomed and earth will become heaven and we all will dance with bliss, because students are the real property of every nation. So we will be life-message to them so that they will be infused with spirituality even they will be inculcated to any stratum of education. Hence the massage to student mass is that money comes and goes, but morality comes and grows, be alert; education is not for belly but for heart, not restricted to human`s heart. So follow Satya Sai Baba`s message; “Help ever, Hurt never and Serve all, Love all”.

    With regards,
    Thanking you

    Dear Uncle,
    SaiRam

Thank you for the beautiful description of human values. Very truly said that the education should definitely teach the students the human values and also help them in implementing them in the real life. Sai Satcharitha also focuses mainly on the Love, Compassion and Care with Kindness.

    Sai bless all.

  5. Sir,
    Namaskar.

A real article on purpose of education which is a needy article for every human being.Sir, the people who are guardians of students have always been demanding for good mark through the examination which create a poisonous mental tension for the both parents as well as the students. They forget the value education which seem to be as an old concept of education but i.e. the real education.A line of the article must be accepted by all i.e. ” Guiding and encouraging students to become good human beings and effective citizens are needed at all levels of education”. I recall another article written by you previously ‘My performance as a Guardian and Counsellor in Higher Education‘ which describes your own life style as well as your guidance in education. Lastly I can say that the society feel the value based education very much needed now-a-days which will make the future generation social in their lifestyle.

  8. Purnima Panda says:

    Pranam kaka,

The article has a prior and important message to all guardians and also the educational system of our country.Today both guardians and students are giving priority to rank in studies as they are curious to get a good job. All are concentrating more on professional courses forgetting the real value of education. Without human values the education is like a body without a heart, so it is our responsibility to encourage and increase their interest towards the real value of education.

Thanks for sharing such a valuable article that is helpful for our future also.
