Pursuit of Excellence in Yoga and Spirituality

We live in a world that focuses on success. On the other hand, excellence is about being the best we can by maximising our talents and abilities to perform at the highest potential with existing resources. Success is mostly related to worldly achievements like social status of occupation, wealth and power; but it cannot ensure happiness and peace of mind. Excellence is all about achieving one`s personal best in abstract sense. The best example is pursuit of excellence in yoga and spirituality.

I was recipient of scholarships throughout my student career in schools and colleges beginning from Lower Primary Scholarship in 1957 to National Scholarship up to completion of my M.B.B.S career in 1972. I was basically an M.B.B.S. doctor, when I entered in public service selected by Orissa Public Service Commission in 1973. I acquired my higher qualification as M.D. in S.P.M. (Community Medicine) in 1988 sponsored by State Govt. as an in-service doctor; selected for higher study basing on evaluation of my M.B.B.S. career, service experience and efficiency in work. I worked with my utmost efficiency and proficiency along with the values of sincerity, honesty and integrity with compassion for the beneficiaries during my service career of more than 34 years as a Medical Officer in Orissa State Medical and Health Services; as a result I was rewarded with three promotions to the higher posts during my service career. I started my service as an Assistant Surgeon on October 30, 1973; worked in different Medical and Health Institutions of different Districts of the State of Orissa and after working as Sub-Divisional Medical Officer, Padampur Dist. Bargarh, Additional District Medical Officer, Bargarh and Chief District Medical Officer, Bargarh on promotion; at last I got retired from Orissa State Government Service as Chief District Medical Officer, Bargarh on February 29, 2008 on attaining the age of superannuation.

Subsequent upon my retirement as Chief District Medical Officer Bargarh Orissa during 2008 and 2009 I developed Yoga and Spirituality as ways of my life. I was attracted towards Spiritual philosophy of Sadguru Sai Baba in my mental, emotional and intellectual planes; and I became a Shirdi Sai devotee on October 14, 2008. I resorted to Yoga practices to maintain my physical, mental, emotional and spiritual health; and I became a Yoga practitioner since July 28, 2009. I created the blog Yoga and Spirituality in 2010, nurtured it in 2011 and got it established in World Wide Web in 2012. During 2013, I rejuvenated my life as a yoga practitioner and Shirdi Sai devotee by means of Yoga and Spirituality. In 2014 I am recognized as an author based on my writings with my knowledge and experience as a yoga practitioner and Shirdi Sai devotee rather than a doctor in World Wide Web.

Being successful in one`s public and professional career does not necessarily mean it is excellent, and pursuit of excellence in yoga and spirituality does not mean to strive for success. Success is attaining or achieving socio-economic status, which elevates one`s importance in society; whereas excellence is the pursuit of quality in one`s work and effort.

Success is a journey and not a target and has to do with achieving our (mind it ours) short and long term goals. Criteria for success are different for different people, majority have routine difficulties and material targets, we don’t have to confuse with them. Fulfilling basic needs of living in a graceful way if achieved, should be motivation for pursuing the next goal for helping people and enjoying life. Setting goals are a way for improving our performance and one should always be happy with our past, whatever have been achieved in it. Past should not spoil our present and worries of future should not be allowed in our mind. You are enjoying an extremely successful life. Keep it up.

    Respected Sir,

The topic ‘Pursuit of Excellence in Yoga and Spirituality’ what I understand that is meaning to render self-less service to needy with remembering God. The pursuit appears to be very easy to think in mind, but hands are not conditioned so rapidly if heart is not habituated so early. So it needs satsanga called spirituality and its impacts seen in society is called real visible yoga. As per your bio-data presented pyramidically you have already sharpened to enter into yoga and spirituality and have been showing excellency.

Thanks for innovative idea for happiness in life.

    Pranam kaka,

To be successful in life an optimistic approach is essential which is also foundation of courage and true progress.Achieving certain height in professional life, wealth, fame all are materialistic. The real goal of life should be salvation which can be achieved through the journey of spirituality.A great example of that is your life, serving people by doing your job and after retirement you are still active serving society by your noble work.I wish all the success in your life so that you could progress more and more and give guidance to all.
