Attitude to Create Opportunity in Each Circumstance

Attitude is the energy generated in our thought process when put in to action can create opportunity in each circumstance. Attitude is more a feeling than a thought, but it is affected by what we think. If we choose thoughts which create confidence to take up greater and wider sphere of activities, we feel empowered to execute the activities with much confidence. It determines how we react to the events in our lives and act in the times to come.

I and my wife after my retirement from the post of Chief District Medical Officer Bargarh Orissa on attaining the age of superannuation i.e. 60 years of age on February 29, 2008 preferred to stay in a joint family with our offspring than to stay as a nuclear family at our native place in our old age for better physical, mental and emotional support in a joint family set up. On the other hand I had to leave my comfort zone of leading life with friends, relatives and old colleagues in my native place, district and state where I was having a worthy social recognition as a professional doctor amongst the public. Consequent upon my extra-ordinary decision, I had to lead my post retirement life in a completely changed social setup having only company of own family members. After residing in Gurgaon Haryana (N.C.R. Delhi) for about one year, we relocated to Bangalore Karnataka where we are residing at present.

In the changed circumstances, intuitive thoughts came to my mind that the present global world is connected through internet via World Wide Web and it will be wise on my part as a senior citizen to give something back in innovative and creative way to the society of my native place, district and state; and my country India and World as a whole by complementing and supplementing my post retirement activities of Yoga and Spirituality with my scientific knowledge of medical profession. To work out my ambition, I had to acquire the knowledge and skill of information technology after my retirement at the age of 60 years.

I created my own blog Yoga and Spirituality in the website of WordPress.com on May 2, 2010. I have been publishing monthly average 2-3 articles on Yoga and Spirituality since May 2010 consistently for last 50 months up to June 2014. I registered my name as a user in social networking website Facebook on June 15, 2011. It is 3 years since then, I have been posting daily average 2-3 posts on health magazine, inspirational quotes, yoga and spirituality, photos related to functions, festivals, tours and travels in Facebook wall page and groups. Most of my old friends and colleagues with whom I had worked during my service, tech-savvy cousins and relatives have become readers of my blog Yoga and Spirituality and friends in Facebook. Readers of many countries throughout World are reading my articles posted in my blog Yoga and Spirituality as documents available for public view through Google and other search engines in Internet. Moreover I have been able to create a new circle of friends world-wide through social networking in Facebook. I have the pleasure to mention here that many of them both old and new are actively associated in posting likes and comments on my articles and sharing my photos and posts as readers, viewers, friends and comment authors.

Our attitude is everything. With proper attitude we can create opportunity in each circumstance to create something new.

  2. Thanks Dr Panda for sharing the post and your rich retirement activity. Your contribution to world, nation, society and family are unparalleled. Attitude to learn, change and modify ourselves according to changed circumstances is the basis of age old Darwin’s principle “Survival of the fittest”. If we don’t change then we suffer and ultimately the nature chooses those who change. Retirement and old age are big changes in life and one has to prepare oneself, well in advance for these. Financial security is usually worked out by most people, but social security is usually overlooked. I find children the best companion in old age, besides usual friends and family members. Transferring of useful knowledge, experience gained and making it understandable for children, or transmitting it through net is another positive pass time. We must fill our empty time with some useful hobby/ activity to keep ourselves happy. Spirituality, devotion to God, chanting musical offerings etc is another field one can devote time. Devotion is peace giving extremely pleasant activity in old age if person has faith in invisible power (God). Computer connects us to the world and to an ocean of knowledge, helping us to act wisely in any given circumstance. By the way I am also 58 and using computer since last 20 years, performing my banking on net, keeping accounts and other memorable data, communicating with people on net. Most of the complaints are lodged on net supported by hard copy postal communication and net is an integral part of my daily routine. New generation is though more perfect in electronic activity, thanks to net being available on telephone. Well said and done Dr Panda Ji.

    Respected Sir,

Since the creation of visible world and present scenario of creation of God, human is the highest and is bestowed with mind to envision all natures and to store the same and implement as per his own desire. But remember; mind, not like that of physical mirror or that of full-moon though having mighty power is reined either by intellect for positivism or by ego for negativism and body is the instrument of all actions. Hence mind is the potential of action with its attributes( senses).
