Spirituality is Natural Instinct of Humanity

Spirituality is natural instinct of humanity. The only stimulus required is to blossom spirituality in human beings by developing divine nature of inner Self. We may have to struggle a little bit to blossom our spiritual nature just like the seed in the earth has to struggle before it becomes a plant and bears fruit.

Spirituality is quite different from religious feelings. It is not just repeating mechanically the words of prayers and prescribed rituals of a particular religion to which one belongs by birth or adoption. The inner self developed by a person by his karma (duty), bhakti (devotion) and gyana (knowledge) decides the mental, emotional and intellectual acceptance of his spiritual idol.It needs wisdom to follow the path of spirituality envisaged by his spiritual idol. Wisdom is the ladder to ascend from ordinary knowledge of human beings to blossom natural instinct of spirituality.

Spiritual ideology ought to be totally compatible at physical, mental, emotional and intellectual levels of an individual to follow the spiritual path shown by his spiritual idol with devotion and dedication.

  1. Swami Vivekananda says-Spiritual development is the only development. Gautama Buddha says-Life without spirituality is lamp without light. And you rightly said-we should follow spiritual path, should blossom our spiritual nature.

  2. I shall prefer to differ from the title of this article. Man is one of the species of animals and animals do not apparently have any concept of God or spirit. Our basic needs like air, food, reproduction. comforts, shelter etc are natural to us. Spirituality, God and religion are the concepts conditioned in us by our parents, teachers, surroundings and religious or spiritual teachers. We tend to believe as preached to us and most of spiritual or religious concepts are matter of faith. Some of basics taught in one religion / spiritual beliefs, may be diametrically opposite to many other beliefs. Many of our customs and faiths, too , tend to be doctored and sometimes lack any scientific basis. Killing an animal and eating its meat is natural to Muslims, but is not at all appealing to many Hindus. Spirituality, too has been accordingly molded by our religious teachers. The spiritual concepts take origin from contemporary knowledge, beliefs, social and circumstantial conveniences.

  3. Sir,
    Namaskar.

A nice article which very briefly describes the spiritual path of life. Really it is very difficult to be a man of that spiritual way in this society as described by you. Some unfavorable condition destroys the purity of mind which is the main factor to decide spiritual journey.Humanity is the real thing which awake people about their duty. On the way of Yoga it is natural to develop spirituality as natural instinct. It is really truth that-‘Spirituality is quite different from religious feelings’.

  5. Kamalakar Pandit says:

Spirituality says that inner happiness comes from living not for ourselves but living for others. When we only seek to please ourselves, then we can only get a limited happiness, our pleasure will be limited. However through selfless action, through serving others we can go from a limited human perspective to becoming aware of an extended world of humanity.

  6. Respected Sir,

My analysis on the topic spirituality is natural instinct of humanity of your blog brings me somewhat confusion. Spirituality means what I understand is a path to search and race till one has no identity of self. Then who is self, question strikes to all identified ones; but that is not other than human race, the attributes of body, mind, intellect, and ego those ensheath the soul. This ensheathed soul called individual has lost his own property and moves ruthlessly because of so many instincts like other creatures to nature and dances in the nature world phase by phase, unending phenomena. Hence human race has instincts designated as either male or female, but bonded man instinct that has reasoning powers. By virtue of its reasoning power man differs from animal kingdom in evolution and becomes human who has no natural instinct, that to mean he forgets those instincts and sticks to an esoteric instinct called spiritual instinct to hold his path as ultimate merger. Deviation of this path when very often, he moves as tornado and subjected to pain and sufferings only. So I must recommend all to follow the spiritual path, which is above caste, creed, race and religion and it is self-disciplined path. Recent Avatar Sri Satya Sai Baba has shown simple procedure to achieve the goal in life that is adhering to satya, dharma, shanti, prema and ahimsa by which one gets purification and perfection. This is human instinct in spirituality.

  8. Purnima Panda says:

    Pranam kaka,

Instinct is natural inward impulse to any mode of action, whether bodily or mental. Spirituality is the process of transformation either in accordance with traditional religious ideals , or increasingly oriented on subjective experience. As we all human beings are the greatest creation of God , we always have been drawn towards some form of spirituality as it to magnet.

A vast and deep subject, nicely and simply described in the article.
