Remarkable Events during Seven Years of My Post Retired Life

 Retd. C.D.M.O. Bargarh

It has been a time span of 7 eventful years as on March 1,2015 since I retired from the post of Chief District Medical Officer Bargarh Orissa on attaining the age of superannuation i.e. 60 years of age on February 29, 2008.

We (I & my wife) relocated to Gurgaon, Haryana (N.C.R. Delhi) on March 30, 2008 to stay with our son working there for better physical, mental and emotional support in our old age. I was attracted towards spiritual philosophy of Sadguru Sai Baba in my mental, emotional and intellectual planes; and I became a Shirdi Sai devotee on October 14, 2008 during my stay at Gurgaon. Thereafter I attended arati and bhajan samabesh in Sai Dham, Sohna Road Gurgaon.

We relocated to Bangalore, Karnataka on April 25, 2009 consequent upon acceptance of assignment of a higher job by my son. We have been staying in Bangalore with our son, first daughter, son-in-law & our granddaughter in a joint family set up since then. I resorted to Yoga practices to maintain my physical, mental, emotional and spiritual health; and I became a Yoga practitioner since July 28, 2009. I attended the classes of Yoga for Elderly persons in Dhrti Yoga Centre BTM 2nd Stage Bangalore for about 9 months from July 28, 2009. During the course I have attended lectures, spiritual talks by faculty members, practical demonstrations of yoga practices by students and witnessed yoga therapy in arogyadham during visitors program conducted for the visitors at SVYASA (Swami Vivekananda Yoga Anusandhana Samsthana) Yoga University Bangalore as Yoga Practitioner, Dhrti Yoga Centre BTM 2nd Stage Bangalore during 2009-2010.

I desired to express and share my thoughts on Yoga and Spirituality in writing independently as an author; and I created my own blog Yoga and Spirituality on May 2, 2010. I developed the hobby and habit to read articles published in journals, magazines and blogs in internet; read and analyse scriptures and texts on Yoga and Spirituality for acquiring knowledge and skill; and communicating to like-minded people in writing articles based on my knowledge and experience. I had Darshan of Sai in Shirdi Dist. Ahmednagar Maharashtra India on November 18, 2010.

I registered my name as a user in social networking website Facebook on June 15, 2011. My old friends and colleagues with whom I had worked during my service became friends in Facebook. Moreover I started creating a new circle of friends world-wide through social networking in Facebook. I have been publishing Health Magazine in News Feed and Health Bulletin group in Facebook for awareness and education on health besides other social networking posts.

I was recognized as an author rather than a doctor in World Wide Web in 2012. My friends and colleagues, tech-savvy cousins and relatives have become readers of my blog Yoga and Spirituality and Posts in Facebook through Internet. Readers of many countries throughout World read my articles posted in my blog Yoga and Spirituality as documents available for public view through Google and other search engines in Internet. I have the pleasure to mention here that readers of more than 100 countries of world from India and abroad are reading my articles posted in my blog website Yoga and Spirituality and many of them are actively associated in posting likes and comments on my articles and sharing my photos and posts as readers, viewers, friends and comment authors in the blog website of Facebook.

We (I & my wife) visited United States of America in 2013. We stayed with our second daughter & son-in-law and grandson & granddaughter residing in New York, USA from July 30, 2013 to October 1, 2013.During our stay for 64 days in USA we visited New York City, Washington D.C. & Niagara Falls. On September 28, 2013 I visited The United Nations (U.N.) Headquarters International Territory in New York City. I viewed General Assembly Hall, UN Secretariat & Embassies of different Nations as a visitor to US of Indian Nationality. I also saw the International Headquarters of UNICEF in the same campus. I have posted 4 articles in my blog Yoga and Spirituality published from New York, USA and posted concurrent posts and photos in Facebook during my stay in USA.

I had the privilege to talk on America Diary basing on my exposure and experience gained during my visit to U.S. to school students of Bargarh district during my Odisha trip in 2014. I was felicitated and honoured as Chief Convener & Founder Member, Panchayat Samiti College Gaisilat Dist. Bargarh (Est. July 2, 1984) in a special function organized by Principal, Staff & Students on October 30, 2014 in my native village Gaisilat Dist. Bargarh. I was felicitated and honoured by ASHAs Bargarh Municipality (who were accredited as ASHAs in last week of February 2008 3days prior to my retirement as C.D.M.O. Bargarh) on November 4, 2014 during my visit to Bargarh. We had Grihaprabesh to our own house at Bangalore on December 15, 2014.

In January 2015 my article sent from Bangalore describing my involvement during my service tenure at Bargarh Odisha during 2005-2008 in Dhanuyatra got published in Subarna Deepa Dhanuyatra Diary unfolded during Bargarh Dhanuyatra on January 2, 2015. Moreover my message sent from Bangalore as Founder Convener of Panchayat Samiti College Gaisilat (Est. July 2, 1984) Dist. Bargarh Odisha published in College Magazine was released on event of Annual Function on January 31, 2015.

During seven years of my post retired life I have adopted Yoga and Spirituality as means and ways of life and have got remarkable public recognition in my native State Odisha and abroad for my past and present activities.

  1. I had the privilege to perform the spiritual rituals pertaining to observance of 96th Maha Samadhi Divas of Sri Shirdi Sai Baba on October 3, 2014 (Dasara) as principal devotee (pradhan sevak) in Palanquin Procession held in Shri Shirdi Sai Baba Anand Ashram, BTM Lay out Bangalore organised by Sri Sadguru Sainath Seva Samithi.

    • It is seen that labour classes never get balance diet ,never go to any physical education or exercise but work to produce for society in which they maintain sound health even up to 80 years in a polite manner in the society. Thanks for their environment where physical labour, heartily cooperation, fresh air, fresh water, natural cooler due to large tree, pesticide free food is there in rural area through out the world.

      • I did sadhana of ‘Service to man is service to God’ as tapas during my long thirty six years of medical professional life since I became an M.B.B.S. doctor in February 1972 till I retired as Chief District Medical Officer, Bargarh Orissa in February 2008. In my post retirement life, I searched for innovative insight in tapas and chose Yoga and Spirituality to be the ways and means of living rest of my present life.

    • Thanks to Dr.Binod Bihari Naik for his special love for certified world ratted healthy citizen.May I request him to comment on non certified neglected groups who have no balance diet to take for financial problem and no time to take training of spiritual education but lives more than 80 years for their physical productive works for society which gives them non pesticide foods, heartily cooperation to get fresh cooling air due to tree, free water from land along with heartily cooperation from their rural society?

  3. Prakash Padhan says:

Respected Sir, really I am happy to read your post retirement events. You are retired but not tired. You are unique doctor now recognized as author and yoga practitioner.

    • Sorry dear Prakash Padhan, Dr.Mahesh Chandra Panda has already retired from his experience of medical service for neglected groups in Government Hospital although that is essential for the neglected society to guide them for their production, physical exercise, value to curd rice, value of cool fresh air without cooler but due to green leafy tree which control dust, sound, temperature and pollution air. May I request you to ponder for retired person who never tired to worry for such neglected groups of rural area which is essential to build the nations for peace.

  4. Sir,
    Namaskar.

A nice article to read about your post retirement life management. You are retired from service of Odisha Govt but not from the service of Human Society. You are really a great personality who kept the way of life in stream of Yoga and Spirituality which I think is only done by the blessings of Sri Shirdi Sai Baba. Sir I think myself also lucky to be as like as student of you.Your advice always keep my way of life to run very smoothly.I with my family wish your smooth healthy life to God. Sir Salute for your nice work and I pray your blessings in my life always.

    • Dear Kedarnath Sahu,Please take my salute. Thanks for your loving post retirement life management. Thanks for your loving blessing of Sri Shirdi Sai Baba. Thanks for your loving to follow to Dr.Mahesh Chandra Panda.May I request you to follow like Anna Hazare who works for neglected groups of rural area after his retired life with free air, free water with heartily loved society who never tired to work for production of foods for the nation.Choice is yours whether you follow to philosophy of Gandhiji, Shree Krishna who loves rural background or to philosophy of city living. Awaiting for your response and guidance to build the nation.

      • Dear Sir,
Really glad to see your reply comment on my comment to Dr Mahesh Chandra Panda. Sir you are right. Some people come to the world to serve their duty which is fixed by the Almighty. We are unable to be as same as others. The vision of some people depend upon their nature with their environment as well as the time. Your justification towards Anna Hazare is neither followed nor appreciated by all. The philosophy of Gandhijee is not adopted by all those people who kept only a Gandhian Cap. I respect Gandhijee as God when I read his Autobiography. I love and respect Anna Hazare for his principle and work but myself unable to follow all his words, sorry sir. I serve as a teacher in Rural Area and try my best. I respect Dr Panda Sir for his skill of life style management with his nature. Lastly once again thanks for your valuable comment.

  5. Very well spent eventful period. One should enjoy and utilize the time available in best possible way. Your articles and activities in social life are commendable. Hope your services and wisdom will remain available to the world in same way in future also. God bless you with long healthy life. Love to Snigdha.

    • When we need some consuming material we visit market or internet, compare and then purchase. Like wise if we choose a path after our retirement, we should analyze some philosophy like that of Ram Baba, Sai Baba. Some one may also follow Anna Hazare, Gandhiji or many more to concentrate on rural life for sound life with free water, air and land without any pollution and fit for old age due to some physical exercise for living cost instead of maintaining city life.May I request you to visit philosophy of some rural lover to cooperate farmers instead of own family who are maintaining city life.

  12. Sir, you have no retirement. To educate an individual regarding his health,a great challenge today, what you are doing daily through face book. Lord Jagannath bless you for your long healthy life. We, your face book friends are obliged for your innovative attempts to make our society health conscious. Thank you, keep it up please.

  13. Satyajit Panda says:

    Respected Dadu,

It has been a great innings in your life in the span of seven years after your retirement. It is a true inspirational message for all of us to learn a lot. Your articles are greatly constructed and written. It is an odyssey with full of experience and enjoyment for you.

I am very much impressed reading your article published in January 2015 about your participation in Bargarh Dhanuyatra during your service tenure at Bargarh.

I got too much excited to read your message published in college magazine of Panchayat Samiti College Gaisilat in January 2015 to know that you are the Founder Convener of Panchayat Samiti College Gaisilat Dist. Bargarh.

  14. After reading your article myself realised that it is really an autobiography of a man who has nicely managed his post retirement life smoothly which enlighted us.Your work in social networking site Facebook has highly inspired people those who are frustrated after retirement.

  15. What you have not accomplished in service life achieved to your satisfaction in post retired life.Salute to your workmanship.

  16. Esteemed Sir,

I was very much delighted to go through your postings on your after retirement life and the various activities that you are currently engaged in. It is really a very inspiring post for senior citizens like us. Further I must congratulate you for the fact that you along with your wife are a part of a joint family……which is very rarely seen these days…..where a small nuclear family involving husband wife and kids…..are the basic norms.

It is further encouraging to see that presently you are more an author than a doctor doing yeoman service through your literary work and articles on Yoga and Spirituality.

Wish you good luck and godspeed.

  17. Let the retired persons visit so many philosophical activities of social persons like Anna Hazare, Dr ( Mrs.)Raseswari Panigrahi, MLA Sambalpur, Dr.Umesh Panda, Dr Abdul Kalam, Dr Man Mohan Singh, Dr Nityananda Swain and many more including Gandhiji where opportunity is there to encourage neglected groups along with self last life comfortable living if family permits. Why only to the living of Umesh Panda only who have no guidance to productive groups who require skilled persons of scientific back ground. Let us cooperate the rural area if we can survive with our family in such back ground to build the nation.

    • I had the rare opportunity of serving as Govt. Medical Officer in my home village Gaisilat Dist. Bargarh for 7 years, in my home Sub-Division Padampur at S.D.H. Padampur Dist. Bargarh for 17 years and my home district Bargarh as Chief District Medical Officer Bargarh. I was bestowed with State Honour by Indian Association of Preventive and Social Medicine, Orissa State Branch as an efficient heath care provider, manager and administrator as a life time achievement in State Medical and Health Services on January 12, 2008 while I was working as Chief District Medical Officer Bargarh. I have served poor as well as rural people with utmost sincerity in my public and professional life during my service period knowing fully well that in old age after retirement, I might not be privileged to do so due to physical, mental and emotional dependency on my off springs who are working & staying outside Odisha.

  32. Dhandapani Muthuswamy says:

Dr PandaJi, U have retired from a noble and prestigious service, u have done much social service under the capacity of various posts. People have recognised and assigned your name to a street in your native locality. After ur retirement u became Sadguru Saibaba`s devotee in 2008 and subsequently joined in the Yoga. After that u created blog website of Yoga and Spirituality covering more than 100 countries outside India. After entering the spiritual path u have unlimited boundaries and with very short period u covered vast area with ur service. With so many reputations u r very simple and cordial. I am very proud for the connection with u. I have learned a lot from u within few months. Thanks for the Divine spirit.

  33. V Chandra Sekhar says:

    Namaste Dr.Pandaji,

It was exhilarating to read about the spiritual goals you have achieved in the last few years post-retirement. After retirement, the general tendency of most persons is to take things easy at least for a few years. But,sir, you have not relaxed even after retirement & diversified fully from your medical field and channelised all your efforts in furthering the cause of yoga & spirituality, thereby carving a niche for yourself by spreading the message of yoga & spirituality thro’ your blog & website. You are a shining example of how a person could & should devote his energy & spread the message of yogic spirituality among fellow brethren. In spite of your achievement, it is your humility that strikes any person associated with you, sir.

    Regards
    Sekhar

  34. Dear Sir,

Your journey since the day of your retirement has been very very remarkable. It is a fitting lifestyle and worthy achievements after a great period you served as a doctor mainly in Western Odisha. As many really do observe, after-retirement life of many persons even after a great public life becomes dull, inactive. Very rarely a senior person again ventures to serve the man kind in a different way, as you have been doing in an exemplary way. I pray God that You shall continue in this endeavor for a long long time.

    With Regards
    Susant Purohit

  35. Suresh Prabhu says:
