Cancer is so limited…it cannot kill the spirit of life.

When I noticed one painless swelling over my right upper gum for one week being suspicious of malignant tumour, I had consultation with Dr Vikram, M.S., M.Ch. HOD Head and Neck Oncology and Reconstructive Surgery at Mazumdar Shaw Cancer Center NH Health City Bangalore on April 27, 2015. Biopsy of the swelling was taken same day for histopathological study. On May 2, 2015 when I visited Mazumdar Shaw Cancer Center, I came to know that I am suffering from Cancer of right upper gum. I got operated for removal of malignant tumour with reconstructive surgery on May 13, 2015. I was hospitalized up to May 20, 2015 and being discharged from hospital same day evening I am in post-operative convalescence at our Bangalore home with periodical check-up at OPD of Mazumdar Shaw Cancer Center Bangalore.

On May 21, 2015 through Social Networking in Facebook, I posted about my swelling of right upper gum diagnosed as cancer and surgery to that effect for information to all my Facebook friends, relatives and family members at large with the message that “Cancer is so limited…it cannot kill the spirit of life”. I got quite a good number of likes and comments for the way I am fighting against cancer with much mental and emotional strength. Since that day, I am regularly posting my posts in Facebook on morning quotes, health magazine, photos of my remarkable events etc. on day to day basis.

I am practicing pranayama yoga as physiotherapy for my recovery in convalescence period at Bangalore home as advised by treating surgeon. I am listening spiritual bhajans in Hindi of Shirdi Sai Baba recorded in my P.C., Hanuman Chalisa and reading Shri Sai Teeka in Odia from time to time daily in morning, noon, evening and night. Sometimes, I pick up of one or two of my old articles published in my blog website Yoga and Spirituality for reading and for better understanding of the post and responses posted by different comment authors on the article.

I am now back to the fold of Yoga and Spirituality with the message that “Cancer is so limited…it cannot kill the spirit of life”.

    Respected Dear Kaka,
From the day I got the message about your health, I was feeling upset..From Umesh Kaka who had been to Bhubaneswar on 02.06.15, I could know about the details as has been described to him by Shibani over phone. Really I am amazed about the power you have been conferred upon by practicing the Yoga and Spirituality. It is not only an instance in your life but an example set by you to all the human beings as to how you lead your life more confidently and more happily.

  4. Gum cancers are usually diagnosed early because of it being a sensitive area. Being treated by best cancer surgeon and at an early stage, it will be as good as radical excision. In any case follow up as surgeon advises and keep the spirit high. It will be great example for the non-medical readers and beware of any local or metastatic spread. God bless you with all the courage and health to fight. Spirit of life should be kept up for whole in all circumstances and in every difficult situation. It gives us required strength and keeps health better. Your blog and internet activity is a good communication and a nice way to keep spirits high. Chanting mantras also does the same by strength derived from faith in God and repetitive chanting keeps the negative thoughts away.Best of luck and lots of love to Sara.

Post surgery radiation after effects and periodical complications in swallowing and speech still persist. The good news is that there is no existing cancer lesion in the affected part or recurrence in head, neck, chest & upper part of abdomen. The not so happy news that post surgery radiation there is massive fibrosis over right cheek which may take years to recover. I have to manage life with limitation of affected body parts. 22. I had checkup CT Scan of Neck and Chest & physical checkup and consultation by Director & Surgeon-in-Chief Dr Moni at Mazumdar Shaw Cancer Center NH Health City Bangalore on October 23, 2017 almost 2 ½ years after I was diagnosed having Cancer of Right Upper Gum. Post-surgery radiation after effects and complications in swallowing and speech still persist. The good news is that there is no existing cancer lesion in the affected part or recurrence in head, neck, chest & upper part of abdomen. The bad news that there is ORN (Osteo-Radio Necrosis) of Right Lower Jaw Mandible bone for which the sinus wound over right cheek developed since March 2017 not healing up and mouth opening is getting shortened which is inadequate for taking normal food. The surgeon opined that let me continue with conservative treatment as such till such time I can take food by mouth with bearable pressure, discomfort & pain with existing limitation having periodical physical checkup every 3 months and they will only consider for another major reconstructive surgery of right mandible for survival purpose if such situation demands. I have to manage life with physical & functional limitation of affected body parts for the present.

  23. I am scheduled to undergo second reconstructive surgery for Osteo Radio Necrosis of right mandible as complications of post-surgery radiation as a cancer survivor due to Trismus, Constant Pain & Shortening of mouth opening to less than ½ finger in spite of 10 months conservative treatment on 9th January 2018 at Narayana Hospitals Bangalore where my radical surgery was done for cancer right upper gum on May 13, 2015. God is my healer. No matter what my body is telling to me, I trust God to heal me.
